I'm not usually at a loss when it comes to home decor, except for the baby's room. For every other room in our house, I have a pretty good idea of how I would like it to look - general color scheme, a way to make it flow into/from connected rooms, what kind of furniture I'd like, etc.

Now. For those of you who have actually seen my house, you'll see that while there might not be a shortage of ideas, there is definitely a shortage of manpower. Much of our house remains in the condition it was in when we bought it, over a year ago. Come home, Theseus!! Seriously, when he gets back, this place will be awesome. You'll see.

But at least I have an idea in my head of how the rooms should look. Not so with the baby's room. I search and search online, looking at other nurseries, trying to find inspiration, but nothing has really reached out and grabbed me.

This is the closest thing I've found:
Picture
Maybe not so much of the frog/fish/shrimp-in-the-window theme, but I like it. I like that the colors are bold and that the combination is not first thing that comes to mind when you think nursery. And I'm not too worried about recreating the general idea - I likely won't have a chair with fabric that matches the curtains, and our crib isn't white, but I'm confident I could stay faithful to the overall feeling.

But I'm not crazy about it, you know? I just like it. Is that good enough?

Other assorted things I like but struggle to bring together:

- stripes: generally vertical, varying sizes/colors, maybe only on a single wall, maybe on the ceiling
- letters: large letters spelling his name on the wall
- Chinese lanterns: various sizes, at different heights, maybe different colors (to complement the color scheme), hanging from the ceiling
- wall mural: one-of-a-kind but simple design I could replicate myself without too much difficulty
- a tree: surprisingly popular in nurseries, but can be really cool

On paper, I still have about 4 months to decide, but I really don't have a lot of time if you think about it: Thanksgiving is in 2 weeks, so November is pretty much through. Then December will be filled with Christmas (and making the trip back to MA = no painting/decorating). January is mostly filled with my inter-session course (4th-14th) and the spring semester starts on the 21st. The first half of the semester will be the most difficult, because two of my classes are 7-week courses (15 weeks of info jammed into 7 weeks of class time); the end of the 7-week courses is March 17. Baby is due March 22.

Ugh. :(

Not that you asked for my two cents....but I'm gonna give it anyway. I've always thought that a baby's room should be able to transition from infancy to toddler-hood to childhood with only minor changes... I used primary blue & red in Patricks room with touches of pastels when he was a baby, got rid of the pastels with he got into the end of toddler/beginning of child-hood & replaced them with various shades of blue.... he still has the same surtains and bedding that he had back then. Now, I know you're a creative person, so maybe you won't mind changing the color scheme as the baby gets older...I love the colors in the picture, they're ocean-y & you know I love the ocean...I'm just saying that it might be easier to pick a couple of basic colors that a boy won't mind having around as he gets older and just switch up the accents colors/decorations....

Again, just my .02....I;m sure whatever you end up with will be perfect!

Honestly, my daughter doesn't have a room. Right now her bassinet is in our closet....
Anything you do will look really nice I'm sure so ever though you feel rushed, take your time and do something you love. The baby won't care but you sure will.
