I was trying to think of something to write about tonight, and then my cats went and gave me an idea: THE SNAKE THEY JUST FOUND IN THE BASEMENT.

How. Did a snake. Get into. The basement.

I was watching tv and screwing around on the internet when I realized I hadn't seen or heard the cats in awhile. This usually means they are destroying something. I followed the trail of silence into the basement, where they were clustered in a circle, heads down.

"What are you guys doing?"

I broke up their circle and stared down at a coiled thing on the floor. Some rope? A hose? No.

A snake.

A snake in my basement.

The cats hadn't yet mauled it, and truthfully I'm not afraid of snakes (just startled to find one, you know, in the basement), so I scooped it up and took it out to the back yard.

I didn't get a picture of the snake before I released it outside (it really, really didn't want to be held), but here is a picture of another snake very similar to the one my cats found:

Ok, well this isn't exactly like the snake in my basement. My snake was black.
