The baby slept all day, so Theseus and I were able to get a lot done in the yard. Our grass was getting pretty high, and the town can be b*tches about unkempt yards - last year I got a citation warning. Have to try not to let that happen again this year.

Today it reached the mid 60s, which was so wonderful I could have cried. You don't realize how yucky the cold weather makes you feel until you have a really nice day. The air smelled so great and I was even able to keep the front door open for a little while.

T and I walked around in the back yard and started to talk about plans for the garden. It's going to be huge, did I tell you? :) I also threw some expired food into the compost bin and gave that a couple turns. All the bugs that were munching the compost in the fall (back when I kept up with it) are dead now, but hopefully with the new food, more will come in and get to work. I'm very excited to mix it into the garden.

School was canceled because of the snow, but I felt guilty just sitting in here doing nothing. I roamed around the house until about 9:30, then bundled up and shoveled a path to my car. My neighbor came over from next door and helped me out again, and, like the last time, another neighbor down the street came and snow-blowed the plow bank at the end of my driveway. I think I'm going to add a couple extra plants to the garden, so I can give proper thanks to my neighbors in the summer.

We're supposed to get a decent amount of snow tomorrow (somewhere between 5 and 10 inches; not very precise, I know) so school is canceled. My 10-day class has now turned into an 8-day class. So since I'll have a break from jamming mitosis/meiosis/signal transduction/transcription/translation into my brain, my goal for the day is to organize the abyss that is Theseus' closet.

So if you don't hear from me for a couple days, it's because I was eaten by an unknown beast living in there. Or possibly I wandered in too far and got lost among the guitars neither of us know how to play, high school basketball t-shirts, power tools (whyyyyyyy are they in the closet???) and jeans that no longer fit. Or I fell into another dimension and am trapped in a parallel universe. Maybe Theseus will have a clean closet in this other universe? If that's where I am, I won't be coming back.

I got a lot done today, I think.

Daylight savings - a sparkling kitchen - shared popcorn with Sweet Thing - goodbye dinner for Mer - chocolate soy milk - 3 baskets of clean laundry - House marathon - breakthrough with the two wild kittens - Macroeconomics homework - organized bathroom - nasty Patriots loss - talked to baby - found a necklace I haven't seen in months - warm pajamas

Also: tried to save the world (a very small world) and maybe I made a difference, I don't know, I really hope so. :(

...for mismatched kitchenware.

You will find me at the yard sale, Goodwill, Salvation Army, flea market, sorting through stacks of unwanted dishes or digging through containers of discarded flatware to find the lone piece that belongs in my collection.

Ok, I have to do something today. This place is getting out of control.

Today I got a case of the "cleans" - our kitchen is now sparkling and picturesque! Seriously. It's beautiful.

I scrubbed all the grease off the (gas) stovetop and soaked, then scrubbed the little cage things that sit over the flames. I cleaned the oven (luckily it wasn't bad at all and didn't take long). I cleaned the microwave inside and out (also not too bad). I moved everything that didn't belong in the kitchen out, then washed down the countertops and scrubbed out the sink. I washed the walls and dusted on top of the fridge. I watered, pruned and organized the plants in front of the window. I rinsed out and bagged my plastics for recycling.

What's left is the floor, which I purposely didn't clean yet because tomorrow I'm going to try to clean the fridge. Then it really will be perfect.

It feels so nice to stand in there now, with the clear countertops and fresh citrus smell.

Sleep.

Awake. Cats walking on my back. A long, hot shower. Earrings I've never worn before. Keys, my purse. Slow-moving traffic. A busy supermarket (of course, it's Saturday). Three reusable grocery bags full of food. More traffic. A reorganized fridge. Air conditioner humming. Laundry. Dishes. A clean shower (thanks, traveling all-purpose cleaner salesman). Blueberries for dinner. Reruns on television.

And now - sleep.
